There is a petition to pedestrianise Formosa Street between Castellain Road and Warrington Crescent. You may be interested in giving your feedback to Westminster as this in “the backyard”.
The Formosa Amenity estate does extend to Formosa Street, and the houses, pub, shops and hotel are bound by the Rent Charge Deed. However, the Rent Charge Deed does not cover issues relating to road usage (that is for Westminster to decide), so there will not be a representation on this from Formosa Amenity Limited.
Be aware that there are lots of views floating around on this. Some of the shops do not want the street pedestrianized as they feel losing the pay and display car park bays will hurt their business. Conversely, some of the shops, especially the food outlets, are keen to have the street pedestrianized as it may increase customers in summer months.
Residents again have diverse views. Some are keen to have a pedestrianized area and more of an open area that has no car traffic, others are concerned about the noise from food retail units and the pub customers spilling out to a broader area. Some have said a compromise would be to seal off one end of that part of Formosa St to leave the parking bays. Others have suggested to make that part of Formosa Street one way.
As with all these things, there are many people in the neighbourhood and therefore many views around.
The Board is not putting forward a point of view here, but in the spirit of making sure residents are aware of issues in the Formosa Amenity estate, we thought you should be aware of the petition, some of the pros and cons we’ve heard so far, and let you voice your opinions directly to the Council.
The petition can be found here: http://petitions.westminster.gov.uk/Formosa/
Many thanks
The Formosa Amenity Board
