Formosa Firework Party – Saturday 5 November 2011

It’s that time of year again!  The Garden will be hosting our annual firework and bonfire party on Saturday November 5th at 6.30 for 7pm.  If you’ve not been before, its a fabulous opportunity to socialise with your neighbours whilst enjoying the fun.

Schedule of events

6.30pm – The Formosa bonfire is lit!
6.50pm – Garden gate closes

7pm – Formosa Firework display starts
7.20pm -Formosa Firework display ends

We need wood!!

Last year’s bonfire was one of the biggest we’ve had in several years, helped by the amount of wood you all delivered to the bonfire site. If you have access to wood which we can use, please stack it by the side of the shed at the south end of the garden. Please do ensure your contributions are stacked neatly in this area

Enjoying the fireworks safely

Fireworks are fantastic but, as we all know, they can be dangerous. To keep everyone safe, we’ll be placing a ribbon around the display area and will need your help to ensure that you and your guests are behind the ribbon for 7pm. Thank you! This year, we are also asking residents not to bring glass into the garden for safety reasons as there was considerable broken glass last year.

Proposal to pedestrianise Formosa Street

There is a petition to pedestrianise Formosa Street between Castellain Road and Warrington Crescent.  You may be interested in giving your feedback to Westminster as this in “the backyard”.

The Formosa Amenity estate does extend to Formosa Street, and the houses, pub, shops and hotel are bound by the Rent Charge Deed.   However, the Rent Charge Deed does not cover issues relating to road usage (that is for Westminster to decide), so there will not be a representation on this from Formosa Amenity Limited.

Be aware that there are lots of views floating around on this.   Some of the shops do not want the street pedestrianized as they feel losing the pay and display car park bays will hurt their business.  Conversely, some of the shops, especially the food outlets, are keen to have the street pedestrianized as it may increase customers in summer months.

Residents again have diverse views.  Some are keen to have a pedestrianized area and more of an open area that has no car traffic, others are concerned about the noise from food retail units and the pub customers spilling out to a broader area.   Some have said a compromise would be to seal off one end of that part of Formosa St to leave the parking bays.   Others have suggested to make that part of Formosa Street one way.

As with all these things, there are many people in the neighbourhood and therefore many views around.

The Board is not putting forward a point of view here, but in the spirit of making sure residents are aware of issues in the Formosa Amenity estate, we thought you should be aware of the petition, some of the pros and cons we’ve heard so far, and let you voice your opinions directly to the Council.

The petition can be found here:  http://petitions.westminster.gov.uk/Formosa/

Many thanks

Summer Salsa Fun – Saturday 25 June 2011

Book your diaries now for Saturday June 25th when Formosa Amenity will be having its biggest and best fun day yet.

The fun starts at 2pm with bouncy castles, mini-golf, children’s entertainer, face painting, bucking bronco, ice-cream, Pimms stand and more. Then slip into your party shoes and dance the night away as Roberto Pla and his 10 piece Latin ensemble entertain you in the marquee from 6 pm. There’s plenty of entertainment laid on, and with a marquee set up this will be an all-weather event, so please do invite your friends and join the party. From 5:30 pm onwards there will be a BBQ with hog and lamb on the spit available.

Bouncy castles are free, as is the entertainment, but there will be a small charge for face-painting, mini-golf and the food and drink.

Face painting  and mini-golf £2

Bucking bronco £1

Pimms £4/pint or £12 for a 1.6l  jug (from 2pm)

Barbeque £6.50 large bun plus salad

If there’s something you’d especially like to see at the event please do contact Natalie Barb and let her know. She’d love also to hear from any volunteers to help on the day either with setting up, or clearing away after the party.

Come rain or shine this will be a great event. We hope you’ll come along.

Incident Monday 9 May 2011

On the night of Monday May 9th at around 11pm, a number of loud and oversized garden rockets were set off from the Northern end of the Garden.  We understand that one of the rockets narrowly missed hitting a resident on Warrington Crescent and the rest have caused damage to the lawns.  The board takes such breaches of our Garden rules extremely seriously and would appreciate any information you may have regarding the identities of those involved.

If you can assist, please contact Crispin Sampson-Bancroft on 020 7727 8612

Thank you
